In recent years vaporizers have grown considerably in popularity with a global market outlook expected to exceed $61 Billion by 2025. This has spurred some advancements in vaporizer technology and today’s high-end units can seem more like smart devices as compared to their rudimentary ancestors.

A Quick Overview of Vaporizers

A vaporizer (or vape) is an electronic device that is used to inhale vaporized ingredients without burning them. A vape turns ingredients, such as e-liquids, concentrates, or dry herbs into vapor. They accomplish this feat through the use of an atomizer that acts to heat the substrate to a temperature at which it “vaporizes”.

Vaporizers come in many styles and variants including wet or dry, and conduction or convection. Here, we’ll review the dry convection vaporizer, and more specifically, the Fierce by Healthy Rips, a personal favorite.

Combustion vs Conduction vs Convection: What Are the Differences?

• Combustion is NOT vaping; it’s the ol’ method of burning the ingredient and inhaling the smoke which can be carcinogenic and pose numerous respiratory risks.
• Conduction is the method of heating the ingredient up directly and then inhaling the vapor. Conduction vapes tend to vaporize materials at a lower temperature and produce a steady consistent stream of vapor.
• Convection is the method of heating up the ingredient by circulating hot air around and through the ingredient and then inhaling the vapor. This method eliminates the need for combustion and is usually preferred by vapers using dry herb.

Convection Vaping: For the Health-Conscious

The convection method, which involves the least amount of combustion, is without question the choice for the health-conscious. It produces less carcinogens and other harmful chemicals as compared to smoking.

Whenever dried plant material is burned, such as tobacco, it produces thousands of chemical substances in the smoke. Burning breaks the chemical bonds between the carbon atoms in the large, organic molecules present in plants, creating very reactive fragments called free radicals. Free radicals can combine with each other or with other molecules to produce an amazing variety of products.

Many of these products, such as polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH), are highly toxic and are known to cause cancer. Significant concentrations of PAH are present in the brown tar stains observed on cigarette filters and the dark tar found in pipes.

Building off the same design as the highly loved Fury 2, the FIERCE features a larger chamber, longer battery life, removable battery, and an even stronger hybrid heating element.

The FIERCE’s convection heating system vaporizes your material evenly and efficiently with heated air assisted by a small amount of radiative conduction; the perfect mix for full, clean flavor and massive cloud production. You can activate or deactivate the FIERCE by pressing the power button 3 times in a row. Remove your mouthpiece, load coarse to finely ground material into the stainless steel chamber and set any temperature from 320-430F using the two smaller buttons. Once your chosen temperature is reached the Fierce will vibrate. Clicking the power button once while activated will display your remaining battery life; holding it for a few seconds lets you adjust the session timer between 3-8 minutes.
